HJSC - Update on Shabbos Baby sitting and Rabbi Kirsh class for older kids

Good morning! (at least here in S. Dakota),

As many of you are aware, I am traveling this summer, and am physically not in Cleveland.
That does not mean I am not actively continuing to work for the betterment of OUR shul.
This coming Shabbos we will resume BOTH childcare on the lower level,  and Rabbi Kirsh's classes for older children(at about 10:15).
We encourage you to take advantage of this exciting return to NORMALCY!
I hope to see you all upon our return later this summer.  I miss you all.

Latest from the Medical Advisory Committee

Good Erev Shabbos, Everyone!

On behalf of the Medical Advisory Committee, I wanted to give you a quick update about where we're holding regarding COVID policies and our cautious restart at Heights Jewish Center:

- Our masking policy, sent out a couple of weeks ago, hasn't changed:

  • If you are fully vaccinated (more than two weeks since your final shot of vaccine – second for Moderna or Pfizer; single shot for J&J) you are not required to mask, indoors or outdoors, except when coming up for an aliyah – this is out of respect for the Ba'al Korei.
  • We are removing the "social distancing" ribbons from our seating in the main Shul - so that parents, children, and friends can sit  together more easily.
  • The CDC guidelines say that anyone who is not fully vaccinated should observe all COVID precautions:
    • Inside the building, you should mask, social distance, and continue practicing hand hygiene.
    • When outside the building, please try to maintain masking and social distancing, unless partaking of Kiddush. Then please maintain social distancing.
  • We will not be asking who has been vaccinated.  We are asking that our congregation and visitors act with honesty and integrity, as they have thus far.
  • We encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.

- We have started having Kiddush indoors, and are moving them to our downstairs social hall.

- As soon as we can get babysitters, we're going to restart babysitting.  In the meantime, the play room is open and we encourage you to bring your children back to Shul.  We do ask that you please supervise them in the play room for now, until we get babysitters.  The play room is intended for kids up to 6 years old.  Older children should stay with you in Shul - we are hoping to bring back a program for our 6- to 12-year-olds soon!

- (Did I mention that we're looking for babysitters?  If anyone knows of good candidates for this important job, please let Phil Setnik or Eshter Abramowitz in the Shul Office know!  Thank you!)

- We appreciate your help in keeping Heights a safe place to Daven and to be together as a community, and we look forward to more progress in returning to normal.

- Remember - vaccination is the surest way out of the pandemic.  Please get vaccinated if you are eligible.

May Hashem bless our continuing efforts to stay safe as we return to our life at Heights Jewish Center.

Good Shabbos!

CPR class at HJCS

Dear Heights Jewish Center Synagogue members, supporters and friends.

In conjunction with the shul's Safety and Security Committee, we have arranged through the UH Fire Department to hold a CPR class at the shul. The class will be taught by University Hospitals on Sunday July 11 from 9:00 - Noon. There will be an electronic certificate e-mailed to all of the participants, provided by the American Heart Association.

The class is free to the participants but the shul would appreciate donations in any amount to help offset ancillary costs. The health and safety requirements from University Hospitals is that participants must be socially distant and masks must be worn. However, vaccine status is not required. The class will be held in the shul's basement social hall.

University Hospitals is limiting the class to a maximum of 15 participants. If you are interested, Gedaliah Corbett is volunteering to collect registrations. Please e-mail him at jeffcorbett@hotmail.com or call his cell at 216-501-0625. You may also direct any inquiries to Gedaliah.

Sincerely,

Heights Jewish Center Synagogue
