HJC News - Vayeishev

Please note that Mincha this Friday and next Friday is at 4:30PM, before candle-lighting time. This is done to ensure that the Menorah is lit in shul with enough time to spare before Shabbos begins.  One's own menorah should be lit before coming to shul, and have enough fuel to last until one half hour past dark.

Shacharis this coming week is earlier than usual.  Between Monday and Wednesday, it's at 6:40AM.  On Thursday and Friday, it's at 6:30AM.  Beginning this Monday and extending through to the end of January, those who attend our shul's Monday-thru-Friday Shacharis should make their brochos on Tallis and Tefillin after Yishtabach.

Getting a minyan for Mincha- Maariv has been a struggle these past few weeks.  If you are not downtown or overseas, your help in making a timely minyan will be greatly appreciated.

Part Two of the Chanukah Gelt, Jews and Money Class will take place this Tuesday at 8:00 PM.

The Shul's Board installation/Chanukah Luncheon will take place next Shabbos. Please contact the office to make your reservations.

HJC News- Bereishis

  • Mazel Tov to Jeff and Linda Bookman on the birth of a grandson on Simchas Torah, born to Rabbi and Mrs Akiva Bookman of Baltimore.

  • We are starting a new year of Learning Opportunities this week.
The Parsha Shiur beginning this Shabbos will have an additional focus on serving as a preparatory shiur to davening.

The Weekday Gemara Shiur will be geared towards teaching Gemara learning skills as well.

After weekday Shacharis and Maariv, I will be available to learn for short Chavrusas or mini-Shiurim, which can expand if people are interested.
  • Don't forget: Officer and Board Member Elections 2009-2011 THIS Sunday, October 18, 2009, 9 am.  A light breakfast will be served
There are more Candidates for the Board than there are vacancies, so this is a real opportunity for each member to have a real say in the direction of the Shul over the next two years.
  • Rosh Chodesh is this Sunday and Monday.
  • Starting this Monday and continuing at our weekday Shacharis until Daylight Savings Time ends, The Brochos on Tallis and Tefillin should be said only after Yishtabach.

Good Shabbos
