HJC News - Emor

Mazel Tov to Corey and Jessica Adler on the birth of a boy.  There will be a Sholom Zochor tonight at their home, 2150 Milton Apt. 403.  The bris will IY"H take place at the shul on Tuesday after Shacharis.

This week at Shalosh Seudos, we continue our insights on Chapter 5 of Pirkei Avos.  In response to popular interest, we will also continue our Yortzeit discussions of great Rabbis. This week we will discuss Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, the Beis Halevi, whose yortzeit is the 4th of Iyar, 5652 (1892).

The full schedule of classes, Gemara, Chumash and Mishnayos, continues this week.    In addition, we have begun a shiur in practical and timely Halachos during the break between weekday Mincha and Maariv.  Our Beis Medrash's schedule of classes, including the shiurim on Shabbos, is designed to provide a well-rounded, perfectly balanced diet of Torah; Chumash with Rashi-Navi-Mishna-Gemara-Halacha.  We encourage more people to join our minyanim and participate in the shiurim.

This week will be the last week of having the Mishna shiur after Maariv.  The following week we will move its time to half an hour before Mincha unless special classes are planned.

The shul is planning its second annual Book Sale, on Sunday May 15, from 9am to 2pm. If you have any books to donate, please drop them off at the office during office hours.

We are also looking for volunteers on Thursday May 12 in the evening to help set up and Sunday May 15 to help run the book sale.

If interested, please call the office or e-mail booksale@hjcs.org

There will be a special three-part series to prepare for Shavuos and Matan Torah this month.  Stay tuned for the details.

Heights Jewish Center's 150th Anniversary Gala Banquet is just a few weeks away, Tuesday May 24 at 6pm. We will be honoring Rabbi Schur's memory, recognizing Alex Adelman and Lena Katz for their many years of service to the shul, and expressing our gratitude to Rabbis Burnstein, Granatstein and Katz who were of great assistance to the shul after Rabbi Schur's passing.  In addition, I will be formally installed.  The keynote speaker will be Rabbi Tsvi Schur. We look forward to everyone's participation.  To RSVP and to be included in the journal, please contact the office at office@hjcs.org or 216-382-1958.

Good Shabbos
