Petition for Pizza

Hi all,

As I am sure you are aware, two of our members would like to open a take-out pizza restaurant within out shul building using our milchig kitchen.  In order for them to do so they need a zoning variance from University Heights.  This variance was denied at the recent Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, but they have appealed to City Council which have the final say on the matter.

If you would like the shul to receive rental from the pizza restaurant and would like in general to have another option for pizza within the city, we ask that you click on the link below and sign a petition requesting that City Council approve the zoning variance.  Please include address and city and UH recreation pass # if you have one.   Also, please pass it on to your friends in Cleveland.

Thanks,

Martin

SUMMER SAFETY REMINDER

SUMMER SAFETY REMINDER

As the summer months quickly approach, our children are now enjoying the warm weather. It is a great time to pay attention to a few safety measures that will help protect our children from preventable accidents. With so many children on bicycles and scooters, we must exercise extreme caution when backing out of driveways. It is easy not to see a child if you are talking on a cell phone or relying on mirrors. You never know when a child chasing a ball may run into the street, so please avoid excessive speed in residential areas. Please review these safety tips with all drivers in your household.

Teach your children basic safety measures, such as watching for cars pulling in and out of driveways, wearing bicycle helmets, and avoiding talking to strangers. Paying a little attention to these simple measures will go a long way to making it a safe and fun summer.

Kiddush this Shabbos is sponsored by Yisroel and Sherrie Mendenhall in memory of Sherrie's mother.

The Shul's Beis Medrash Program is starting this Sunday June 13. Right after Shacharis, we will learn an Aliyah (or two) of Chumash and Rashi.  And at 8:20pm, that's thirty minutes before Mincha, we will begin our Chevra Mishnayos with the First Chapter of Masechta Brochos.  I highly recommend using the following edition of Mishnayos, which will greatly facilitate the learning and help in the acquisition of learning skills: http://is.gd/cCoQB  It is well worth the investment.

The Shul is hosting a Father's Day BBQ next Sunday June 20th from noon to 3pm.  Please call or contact the office to let us know you're coming! We would love to see you there.

This week's Torah Column in the Cleveland Jewish News can be accessed here: http://is.gd/cLx5I.  This is my last week writing the column.

HJC Daily Beis Medrash Program

As announced on Shavuos, Heights Jewish Center, in order to live up to its name Beis Medrash Hagodol, is instituting a comprehensive learning program, beginning Sunday June 13.

In the mornings, (Sunday through Friday) immediately after Shacharis, we will learn about one Aliyah a day of the week's parsha, with Rashi.

We will institute a Chevra Mishnayos, a group devoted to learning the entire Mishna over a one-to-two year period.  During the summer months, we will start thirty minutes before Mincha, Sunday through Thursday.  The plan is to cover at least one chapter of Mishna a day, sometimes more and sometimes less, depending on the length and complexity.  Adjustments to time and length would be made as needed.  I strongly recommend using this edition of the Mishna: http://is.gd/cCoQB

We will continue our weekday 6:15am Gemara shiur, which is currently learning Sanhedrin.

Participating in the program will fulfill the Halachic requirement to learn Chumash, Mishna and Gemara every day.  Being part of any shiur will significantly increase one's knowledge of Torah and enhance any other chavrusas and shiurim that you already attend.  We welcome your input and suggestions for additions to the program.

We plan for the program to begin on Sunday June 13, that's a week from this coming Sunday.

Spread the word.
Rabbi Raphael Davidovich
