HJC News - Parshas Tzav - Parshas Parah

It was so wonderful to see so many of you this Purim either at our home or in shul. And then Shushan Purim provided a continuation of the Simcha at our daughter's Vort. We consider ourselves so fortunate to count you as friends. May we all continue to share in many more Simchos together.

This week we will daven Mincha at 7:30pm. Starting next week, we will begin the Spring-Summer Friday Schedule of davening Mincha earlier. Please pay special attention to the Friday evening schedule starting next week. If we have enough interested people, we are open to having two minyanim every Friday evening.  Join the shul's Whatsapp group to get the latest information on shul events and activities and shiurim: https://chat.whatsapp.com/K9iBLRKiJG86AOVct6os0p
If you are ever uncertain as to when a certain davening time or shiur is, you can always check the homepage of hjcs.org, which keeps an up-to-date calendar of the current shul times for Torah and Tefilla.

HJC News - Parshas Vayikra - Parshas Zachor - Erev Purim

Please note the changes in the Shabbos and Motzoei Shabbos Schedules.

The Shabbos afternoon Shiur will be at 5:30pm, followed by Mincha at 6pm. There will be no Shalosh Seudos in Shul this Shabbos. Maariv is scheduled for 9pm, after Shabbos is over, followed by Megillah. Before doing any work or preparations for Purim on Saturday night after Shabbos ends, say "Baruch HaMavdil Bein Kodesh L'Chol."

Once Shabbos ends, one may only eat after Havdala. Havdala will be made in Shul after the nighttime Megillah reading.

Half-dollars will be available in Shul on Purim for people to fulfill the minhag of donating three "Helf-Shekels" to Tzedaka at Purim time.

There will also be a plate for people to make Matanos L'Evyonim contributions, which will be distributed on Purim day.

There will be another reading of Parshas Zachor after Mussaf. There will be no reading of Parshas Zachor on Motzoei Shabbos or on Sunday. If one missed hearing Parshas Zachor in shul, one can fulfill the Mitzvah of remembering Amalek by hearing the Parsha of Amalek read from a Torah on Purim morning (before Megillah) as well.

Here is a link to several short Shiurim I gave in the past few years on the topics of Purim and Megillas Esther. https://audio.hjcs.org/series/purim-and-megillas-esther-55 Enjoy!

Deena and I are thrilled to announce the engagement of our daughter Shalva to Yehuda Schoemann of Baltimore. We invite all of you to celebrate their Vort this Monday, March 25, Shushan Purim, from 4pm-6pm at the Shul.
