HJC News - Parshas Naso

Outdoor Kiddush this Shabbos is sponsored by Lenny and Penny Beer in memory of Lenny's brother Alan Beer of Jerusalem who was one of seventeen people killed in a suicide bus bombing on Jaffa Road in the center of Jerusalem. This is Alan's 18th Yahrzeit.

Mazel tov to Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Kirsch on the birth of a granddaughter, born to Mendel and Bracha Kirsch.

Mazel Tov to Brian and Julie Rubenstein and family on the birth of a grandson, born to Emma & Sruli Baum.

Welcome to new members Manny and Molly Cohen.

At Shalosh Seudos this week, we will resume talking about notable Jewish leaders, alive and otherwise.  This week, we will explore the life of the Baal Shem Tov, whose Yahrzeit was on the first day of Shavuos.

Rebbetzin Deena Davidovich's Monday morning shiur for women on Pirkei Avos will be held in the Shul social hall this coming Monday May 24 at 9:30am.

The shiur will be l'iluy nishmas Rebbetzin Davidovich's father, Harav Mordechai Hershel Ben Shmuel David.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: This Shabbos, we will be resuming the shiurim that were on hiatus since the beginning of COVID.

We realize that it might be difficult to resume habits that have been put on hold for such a long time.  Yet Shavuos should serve as the perfect catalyst to be inspired to strengthen one's Torah learning.

We are resuming the two Shabbos shiurim this Shabbos:

The Parsha Shiur dedicated in memory of Dr Bela Glaser at 8:30am will be moved to the Social Hall.

The Shabbos afternoon Navi shiur meets 30 minutes before Mincha, and will resume learning Sefer Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah), and will continue its focus on finding the Simcha in Yirmiyahu's prophecy.

The weekday shiurim will resume this week as well.

The Mishna shiur meets 30 minutes before Mincha Sunday through Thursday. This Sunday we will begin Shas again, with Masechta Brachos.

And in the mornings we will resume our Monday-through-Friday Medrash Shiur 30 minutes before Shacharis.

I am open to any requests regarding these shiurim, or any other class ideas.  The online talks and podcasts will be continuing as well, and requests are also being taken for those.

Good Shabbos
Rabbi Davidovich

HJC News - Shavuos

We need a few more people to guarantee a 5:30am Minyan on Monday morning. Even if you usually daven elsewhere on Shavuos early morning, please consider joining HJC's Vasikin Minyan tomorrow morning.  If you haven't already done so, please let us know if you can make it.  (There will still be a 9am Shacharis.)

Tonight's learning at Heights begins at 12:30am with a Shiur by Rabbi Claude on the connections between Shavuos and the Shema.

This will be followed at approximately 2:30am by a Shiur by me discussing the Rambam's Introduction to the Mishneh Torah, in which the full transmission of the Torah from Sinai to nowadays is listed, (We covered this a couple of years ago, but we only scratched the surface then. There's still plenty more to say.)

Refreshments will be available all night.

Chag Sameyach!
Rabbi Davidovich

HJC News - Bamidbar

Kiddush outdoors this Shabbos is sponsored by the Davidovich family in honor of Shalva's graduation from Ursuline College.  After davening we will go outside and Kiddush will be made outside. There will be a table set with pre-packaged kugel and pastries so that we can nosh and enjoy some time together after davening.

This Shabbos afternoon after Mincha, we are very happy to announce that we will have Shalosh Seudos. (Indoors, with distancing.)  Sponsorship is still available.

Message from Phil Setnik:  One area that people have been asking about is child programming.  We really want that to happen!  We've had some little ones at Shul on Shabbos recently, and hearing them was such a wonderful thing!  Now we'd like to ask for your help.

We need two things:  assistance in planning child care programming - both babysitting and something for the older kids - and people to actually run the programs.  If anyone would like to help in this important effort, please contact me. This is noble work and we look forward to hearing from you soon. -Phil
