HJC News - Chayei Sarah - Shabbos Mevorchim

This Shabbos afternoon after Mincha, I will speak about Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z"l, the former Chief Rabbi of England who just passed away this past Shabbos.

Rosh Chodesh Kislev is this Tuesday.

Here's a brief thought on the meaning of purchasing a grave for Sarah Imeinu. The first few minutes were accidentally removed, but the point can be understood from the remainder.

Covid advisory

 Hello, All,
I am sory to need to send this to membership.  Yoyo Moore has tested positive for Covid19, and is currently at home in isolation.  The rest of his family is awaiting results of their tests.  Yoyo  was last at Heights Jewish Center Synagogue on Saturday (Shabbos) October 31, 2020.
While the officers and board are not in aposition to give medical advice, I am forwarding the information below for your use.  The link will take you to a CDC page which may offer you some helpful guidance.  You are encouraged to contact your personal physician if you are in doubt as to any precautions you may need to observe.  If we get any further direct and pertenant information, we will forward it to you.

Per the CDC guidelines, "exposure" is defined as "close contact - less than 6 feet away - for a total of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period."  Note the current guidelines speak of cumulative contact over 24 hours.

Notice also that, in the appendix where they define "close contact" that this is irrespective of masks - the CDC is of the opinion that most people don't know how to wear PPE properly and don't have the right PPE anyway, and that the jury is out on cloth masks altogether.
on behalf of the board.

President

Getting to know Rabbi Moshe Weinberger

Hello,
Yesterday, during Shalosh Seudos time, I spoke about Rabbi Moshe Weinberger, who is alive and well. I feel like he is someone we should all get to know if we want to be better in any capacity.

In my talk, I mentioned two interviews Rabbi Weinberger has given recently. I think it's worth our time to get to know him by listening to these interviews.

Enjoy:

This is the interview by Rabbi David Bashevkin:

Here is another conversation with Rabbi Weinberger from the "Meaningful People" Podcast:

I think many of you will thank me for sending these your way. Warning: Each of these interviews is over an hour long. But you don't have to listen to it all at once.

If you want to hear any of the thousands of shiurim he has given, here is a link to access them:
It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the options. Don't worry though. If searching for just the right thing is too much, just click on the first thing you see.  I don't think you'll regret it.

Have a great week!
