HJC News - Parshas Bechukosai
Our 150th Anniversary Gala Banquet is this Tuesday May 24. The Reservation Dinner is at 6pm. At the dinner, we will honor Alex Adelman and Lena Katz for their many years of service and dedication to the shul.
After the dinner, at 7:30pm, there will be a program in the Main Sanctuary, followed by a dessert reception. Both the Program and the Dessert Reception are free and open to the public.
In the Sanctuary, the shul will celebrate 150 years
honor Rabbi Schur's memory,
and formally install me as Rabbi.
We will also express our gratitude to community Rabbis,
notably Rabbis Burnstein, Granatstein and Katz,
who were of great assistance to the shul after Rabbi Schur's passing.
The keynote speaker will be Rabbi Tsvi Schur.
We look forward to seeing all of you and all members members of our shul
as well as those in the wider Jewish community who have bonds
with Heights Jewish Center and its honorees.

This week at Shalosh Seudos, we continue our insights on Chapter 5 of Pirkei Avos. We will also continue our Yohrtzeit Discussions of great Rabbis. This week we will discuss Rabbi Moshe Isserles, the Rama, whose yohrtzeit is on the 18th of Iyar.
The shul's second annual
Book Sale last Sunday went splendidly. Thank you to Gedaliah Corbett and his committee for organizing the event.
We encourage everyone to join us this Wednesday May 25, for the second installment of the "The Phenomenon of Baalei Teshuva" series, entitled Baalei Teshuva and their families.
The first class discussed many issues facing Baalei Teshuva as individuals from the standpoint of Halacha and common sense. The class was well-attended and well received. Please note that this series for everyone, not only Baalei Teshuva. It is clear that even those Jews who have been raised in Observant homes have much to learn about this topic. We look forward to seeing you there. All men and women are encouraged to attend.
The series is sponsored by Steve and Beth Baker
in memory of Beth's mother, Esther bas Yaakov.
With Shavuos fast approaching, I am now taking requests. If anybody would like to hear a shiur on a specific topic on Shavuos night, please let me know as soon as possible.
