Picnic Thank You

Hi, all -

I just wanted to comment on behalf of the HJCS Executive Committee and Board of Directors about what a great time yesterday's Shul Picnic was!  Delicious food, fun, families, and an amazing facility all combined for a very successful event.  Thank you to all of you who were able to join us - you made it fun!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with the planning, shopping, cooking, cashiering, and cleaning that goes along with such a significant undertaking.  You made it possible!

And a very special thank you to Jeff Muller.  Now, he is a very humble guy and I hope I don't embarrass him.  But he deserves particular kudos for being the organizing and driving force behind this year's Picnic.  He really came through for the whole Shul and all the friends who were there yesterday.  Jeff, your leadership made the Picnic a success!!

Looking forward to fun events in the future....

Regards,

NO EARLY MINYAN TOMORROW

Hi, all -

Thank you to those who got back to me about davening Vasikin tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately, we only had a few (less than five) commitments to daven at Heights at 5:15 am, following learning.

And Hillel is needed at another shul; I have advised him to pursue that opportunity.  He will be leyning at the 9 am regular minyan.

So there will be NO VASIKIN MINYAN at Heights tomorrow morning.

Chag Sameach!

Poland Summer Shiur Series
I recently spent a whirlwind five days in Poland, visiting historic sites, and several Mekomos Hakedoshim, the resting places of several of our great tzaddikim.
I plan to devote my Shabbos afternoon pre-Mincha Shiur for the next few months to discussing the trip, and the halachic and historical and Hassidic details of the amazing experience.
30 minutes before Shabbos Mincha in shul. I look forward to sharing my experiences and impressions with you.
The series continues this Shabbos afternoon at 8pm.
Men and women are invited

3am-4:30am: Reb Elimelech of Lizensk, the Chozeh of Lublin and Reb Simcha Bunim of Pshis'cha.

HJC Shavuos Plans

Hello everyone,

Here is the Shul's Shavuos schedule. I am putting this ahead of this Shabbos's Schedule because for some reason, people are panicking! "Rabbi, is the shul doing Shavuos this year?"
As a wise man once wrote, "Don't panic."

Please note that the early minyan on the first morning of Shavuos needs to be confirmed.
One of the things we lost during COVID that we haven't yet found is our Shavuos Vasikin (Sunrise) minyan. I never attended this minyan, as I prefer to daven at 9am. But it is considered a matter of basic shul functioning to have this minyan exist. It also encourages people to join us for the learning and shiurim throughout the night.
If you can join HJC for next Wednesday morning's Vasikin minyan, please let me know by replying to this email.

As far as Shavuos night goes, I would like to try something a little different this year.
Based on the excitement of my recent Poland trip, that I was fortunate to share a smidgen of with you this past Shabbos morning and Shabbos afternoon, I plan on structuring the Shavuos night learning around the highlights of the trip.

Assuming a starting time of 12:30am, the rough approximation of the night's learning will be:
12:30am-1:30am: Lublin and Galicia: Rav Tzadok HaCohen of Lublin, the Bnei Yissaschar and Rav Leibele Eiger: Torah and Chassidus in Poland
1:30am-3am: Cracow: The Rama, the Tosfos YomTov and the BaCH.. Classic Polish Torah
3am-4:30am: Reb Elimelech of Lizensk, the Chozeh of Lublin and Reb Simcha Bunim of Pshis'cha.

The Schedule has names in the titles. In my own way, the shiurim will include history, biography, in-depth Torah insights of theirs and about them.

Poland Summer Shiur Series
Last week, I spent a whirlwind five days in Poland, visiting historic sites, and several Mekomos Hakedoshim, the resting places of several of our great tzaddikim.
I will speak about the trip in my drasha this Shabbos morning.
But I can't do justice to the trip in one talk.
I will therefore devote my Shabbos afternoon pre-Mincha Shiur for the next few months to discussing the trip, and the halachic and historical and Hassidic details of the amazing experience.
30 minutes before Shabbos Mincha in shul. I look forward to sharing my experiences and impressions with you.
The series begins this Shabbos afternoon at 7:55pm.
Men and women are invited

This Shabbos we learn chapter 5 of Pirkei Avos. This week at Shalosh Seudos, I will speak about the Rama, Rav Moshe Isserles, whose Yohrtzeit was the 18th of Iyar.

Announcements and a Request

Good Erev Shabbos, Everyone!

Since a number of our regulars are out of town for the Holiday Weekend, please make an effort to join us for Davening, Friday night especially, at 7:05 PM!  We need YOU to help make the Minyan!

The Rabbi is out of town this week, so Rabbi Yossi Kirsch will be sharing divrei Torah with us at Shacharis and Shalosh Seudos.

The Dr. Bela Glaser Memorial Parsha Shiur will not meet, nor will the Tanya Shiur.

Monday is Memorial Day!  We are going to be running a Kosher Food Stand at the end of the University Heights Memorial Day Parade, at Gearity School.  Please see the attached flyer!

Shacharis Monday is at 8 am.

Have a safe, healthy, happy Shabbos and Holiday Weekend!
