Remember to turn your clocks back an hour on Motzoei Shabbos before going to sleep.
With the end of Daylight Savings Time, Mincha will now be much earlier. 5:05pm this coming week. If you are able to help us maintain our daily minyan, we will be grateful. If you are at work at that time, or you have already told us that you can't make it for whatever reason, there is no need to tell us again. I'm just putting it out there for those who don't have other obligations. Thank you
This Shabbos afternoon, I will speak about Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, whose ninth Yohrtzeit was yesterday.
Good Shabbos

HJC Torah: Where to locate the Embassy (10m 28s)
Hello friends,
Here is the most recent talk, entitled "(Not) the obvious choice - Where to locate the Embassy", in which I discuss the nature of Emuna in Hakadosh Baruch Hu's plan for us, even when other options seem better to our point of view; His choice of famine-prone Eretz Cnaan as the promised land, His Embassy on earth, as opposed to the obviously more prosperous Mitzrayim.
As usual, feedback is always welcome.
PS If you can make it to Mincha-Maariv at 6:10pm this week, we'd appreciate it.

HJC Mincha-Maariv today 6:10pm
Hello everyone,
Mincha-Maariv at HJC tonight is at 6:10pm.
A number of our regulars have told me that they cannot make it tonight, each for his own reason.
So even if you usually daven elsewhere, the shul, and I, would appreciate it if you could help us out tonight. 6:10pm
When the clocks change next week, things will get tougher. So please keep us in mind.
Thank you

HJC News - Bereishis / Shabbos Mevorchim
Mazel Tov to Yona Berkowitz on his Bar Mitzvah celebration this Shabbos. Mazel Tov to Yona's parents Jordan and Rochie Berkowitz, and to Yona's grandparents Gershon and Mary Ireland. While circumstances determined that the celebration is not at HJC, the whole shul shares in this simcha. Mazel Tov!
This Shabbos after Mincha, we will be discussing the life and times of Rav Yehuda Leib Schneersohn, the Rebbe of Kapust, one of the almost-forgotten non-Lubavitch Chabad Rebbes; whose Yohrtzeit is the 3rd of Marcheshvan.
Reminder: This Shabbos is Shabbos Mevorchim. Rosh Chodesh Marcheshvan is this Sunday and Monday.

SIMCHAS TORAH UPDATE
SIMCHAS TORAH UPDATE:
As we are all aware, this year is anything but normal. Our hope and intent is to help make your Yom Tov as leibidich as possible, while keeping everyone safe! With this in mind, we will be observing the following procedures. (note that all Covid 19 protocols remain in place at all times eg. masks, distancing, not attending if sick, children must remain with their parent at all times, etc.)
- In order to limit the length we are in the building, there will be no auction of kibbudim.
- Hakafos will have 4 people called up by the Gabbaim, 1 for each Torah.
- The congregation should remain at their seats and join in by singing. With exuberance! The simcha depends on you!
- If you are called to carry a Torah or for an aliyah, please sanitize your hands before and after.
- Please do not kiss the Sefer Torah.
- Kol Ha Na'arim will be in a modified format. If your child is with you at shul, and he is called up, he will be representing ALL of the children in our kahila!
- There will be no kiddush, and you are requested to refrain from bringing any beverages inside the building. Your mask must remain on while in the building.

HJC Succos Torah: Living in a cloud
Here's the last video before Succos. Only 8 minutes long.
I've written some of the halachic content in the email below. But the video has more, and also has a short Drasha.
Gut Shabbos and Gut Yom Tov
Rabbi Davidovich
//////////////////////////////////
A few points to remember. This is not a comprehensive list of halachos for Succos. I am only listing items that I think may be overlooked or forgotten. Please contact me with any other shailos you may have.
Tonight is the first day of Succos. It is both Shabbos and YomTov. So the Amidah's are all YomTov Amidahs (Artscroll p660) with Shabbos additions, and not vice-versa. Minhag Ashkenaz is to skip Kabbalas Shabbos until Mizmor Shir, and then to skip Bameh Madlikin and go straight to Maariv. Barchu is only said in a minyan. After Birchos Krias Shema, both "Veshamru" and "Vayidabeir" are said, even with no minyan.
Kiddush tonight in the Succah is the YomTov Kiddush with Shabbos additions, including "Yom Hashishi Vayechulu.." Tip: Don't wing it. Find it in your siddur or Machzor and follow the instructions there.
Add both Retzei and Yaaleh VeYavo to Bikrkas Hamazon.
On Shabbos, the Lulav etc are Muktzah. We do not take the Arba Minim on Shabbos.
Ideally, Shalosh Seudos should begin before 4:45pm. If this proves unfeasible, Shalosh Seudos may still be eaten, just making sure not to eat too much, we want to retain an appetite for the night meal.
Kiddush on Saturday night is YaKNeHaZ, incorporating Havdala elements. Again, don't wing it: follow the siddur or machzor instructions. Make the Shehechayanu before Leisheiv.
On Sunday morning, the brachos and taking lulav should be in the succah ideally.
