Two "public service announcements"

To all members and friends of HJCS... The following two (2) items may be of interest to you.  The first is an offer of financial assistance for funeral expenses for Covid-19 related deaths, and the second is for beachwood residents looking for vaccine appointments.  I hope these might help some of you.  Rob Altshuler, President.

DHS Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships

On March 24, FEMA released the interim policy guidance on the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance program. It will be a reimbursement program for eligible funeral expenses for deaths related to COVID-19 that occurred after January 20, 2020.

Please see the press release for more information about the newly released policy: FEMA to Help Pay Funeral Costs for COVID-19-Related Deaths.

The program is not yet active, but is anticipated to begin in early April. This bulletin is simply a notice to provide awareness of the impending launch, allowing individuals an opportunity to begin to gather documentation and case workers time to gain familiarity. If your organization provides funeral assistance please take a look at how your program may interact with the FEMA's COVID-19 Funeral Assistance program to avoid duplication of benefits. For those accustomed to conventional natural disaster responses please note that FEMA intends to establish a dedicated toll-free phone number for COVID-19 Funeral Assistance, separate from DisasterAssistance.gov.

For those looking for more specific details about the program please go to the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance website.

Meals for Rabbi Davidovich

People have been asking  about assisting in providing for meals for the Davidovich family for Pesach.  Here is your answer:

Mrs. Debbie Schlesinger is collecting funds via ZELLE or VEDMO.  at 216-337-6711.   This money will be used to purchase catered or pre packaged Pesach meals in Baltimore which will be brought back to Cleveland for the family.

May we all hear good things.  Have a Chag Kasher v'semaich!

Heighs Jewish Center - during the Rabbi's absence

Members and friends,
With the uncertainty as to when Rabbi Davidovich will be returning from Baltimore, and considering the nearness of Pesach, I have contacted Rabbi Burnstein of Young Israel.  He is more than willing to field any shialas for our members, as well as assist in arranging for the sale of your chometz if you have not yet done this.  Please contact Rabbi Burnstein on his cell phone at 216-409-5480.  He does NOT text!.  If you get his voice mail, do not leave a message- he will return the call to the number on his caller ID.  You can also leave a voice message on his confidential voice mail at the office by dialing 216-382-5740 and follow the prompts.
Much gratitude to Rabbi Burnstein for assisting us!  May we share good things.

Rob Altshuler,

President, HJCS

Baruch Dyan Ha Emmes

It is with much sadness that I inform you that Rebbetzin Deena Davidovich's father Marc Messing was niftar this afternoon.  The Rabbi and family are on their way to Baltimore for the laviah.  As details become available, we will send out additional information.
May the family be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion and  Yerushalayim.

A Message from your President

As we approach Pesach and the freedom this Holiday represents, some of you are wondering what plans to make for davening at HJCS. We have been very fortunate that our policy of following CDC guidelines – masking, distancing, and washing- have been successful in preventing anyone from contracting Covid 19 in our building. Going forward, we will continue to follow the guidelines of the Ohio department of health. This means that congregants and their visitors to Cleveland, whether vaccinated or not, should practice appropriate public health measures to slow the spread of COVID 19, such as wearing masks, practicing physical distancing (we have seats blocked off and marked for occupancy), and hand washing.

Please pay careful attention to the following in order that everyone feels safe and comfortable in shul:

-Anyone with known exposure to COVID 19 should not attend services (and should not travel at all).

-Anyone with symptoms typical of COVID 19 should not attend services.

As we review the impact of the last year of isolation, HJCS has experienced a major reduction to income, thru reduced rentals, sponsored events, and general reduction in member's ability to keep up with donations. When you receive your stimulus check, please think of HJCS when calculating your ma'aser.
